We are excited to announce our multi-pronged partnership with Emma’s Torch. The organization offers culinary training to refugees and asylum-seekers from around the world. In Emma’s Torch two month intensive course, participants learn the ins and outs of a restaurant. We are offering the program financial support, mentorship and volunteer time and one more way that we’re quite proud of: we are filling the pantry of the kitchen in the training program and the Emma’s Torch restaurant with Roland in-kind product donations—oils, grains, spices and more. Many of our spices and products come from our suppliers in the same countries where Emma’s Torch students have come from and we are delighted to help make these students feel welcome in this country and in the Emma’s Torch kitchen. We are extremely proud to be working with Emma’s Torch and we hope if you find yourself in Brooklyn, you will make a reservation and support their good work.
At Roland Foods, we are particularly interested in supporting traditional and unique paths towards careers in the culinary community. We are proud to support LA Kitchen’s Empower LA culinary job training program. Throughout the 14-week training program, Empower LA students will participate in a variety of hands-on culinary training, self-empowerment programs and local internships. Dynamic lessons from Executive Chef Instructors, Industry Professionals and Volunteer Chefs de Cuisine provide hands-on experience. On-staff MSW Social Worker, Nutritionist and Workforce Developer will focus on the needs of students through Life Skills, Professional Development and Nutrition classes. We provide Roland Foods products in-kind to ensure that the students have all they need in their training kitchens as they prepare to become employed in the foodservice industry.
We also recently sponsored an LA Kitchen event—a panel discussion and evening called, The Power of Food with José Andrés. The event itself offered a ton of great conversation about food/food deserts/food justice and it was really nice for all of us at Roland Foods to be in the company of so many other committed civic organizations and culinary personalities.
James Beard House
As house purveyor sponsors of the James Beard House, we support their mission “to celebrate, nurture and honor chefs and other leaders making America’s food culture more delicious, diverse and sustainable for everyone.” We are also excited to offer Roland Foods products in-kind to fill the James Beard pantry. When chefs come to cook at the James Beard House, we’re proud to know they will often be reaching for Roland Foods products to contribute to their master piece dishes.
